VVSD Prevention Programs

"The best way to end homelessness and substance abuse is to prevent it," Eric Shinseki, Veterans Affairs Secetary.

VVSD is at the forefront of preventing homelessness, substance abuse and mental health issues among military veterans and their families.

Our prevention services are FREE, CONFIDENTIAL and CONVENIENT. No referrals are necessary. It's as simple as picking up the phone or dropping in on a support group.

Our staff is made up of veterans who have first-hand experience of the stresses of military life and clinicians who have a deep understanding of best practices. If you need help coping with the traumas of combat, readjustment to civilian life or simply a forum to vent your frustrations, please check out the following programs:
  • Courage to Call: 24/7 helpline staffed entirely by veterans. (877) MyUSVet, (877) 698-7838.

  • Warrior Traditions: Weekly support groups in San Diego and Oceanside. Spouses and significant others are welcome.
VVSD is geared to helping our current generation of young veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan so what happened to Vietnam veterans doesn't happen to them.
