VVSD Intervention Services

With decades of experience addressing the wide-ranging needs of veterans, VVSD has developed a host of innovative intervention programs to turn lives around.Our programs are so successful and effective,organizations around the country have used them as role models.

VVSD takes a holistic approach to serving veterans. We offer mental, physical, spiritual and legal help in a variety of settings that are easily accessible for our target population.

The staff at VVSD is keenly aware that veterans often come to us with co-occurring disorders, such as mental illness and drug abuse. In many cases, we find that they also need legal assistance resolving outstanding misdemeanor cases and bench warrants for their arrest.

Our intervention programs:
  • Stand Down: the nationally recogonizwed three-day event of one-stop services for homeless veterans, including shelter, food, clothing, medical care and counseling.
  • Veterans Winter Shelter: a safe refugee from the streets where veterans are offered not just a place to sleep, but also housing referrals, employment counseling and other services.
  • Homeless Court: special court hearings held at local shelters to help homeless defendants resolve misdemeanor offenses. Sentences involve participating in rehabilitation activities instead of fines or jail time.
  • Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic: In partnership with VVSD, the Thomas Jefferson School of Law runs the Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic, which takes family, consumer and other cases.
